Grandma Iny's Cake

So, like all bloggers. I read other people's blogs and one that I have a read a few times before, but didn't think too much about is called thepioneerwoman. However, I do often read smittenkitchen and somehow one day smittenkitchen and the pioneerwoman met up and I was reading about it on smittenkitchen. Well there were some links to some posts, etc about what they had baked and I stumbled across a little recipe with The Pioneer Woman saying you MUST bake this now, so I saved it. And she has a beautiful post here of the recipe.
So, I saved it and read it a few times and to say the least I was intrigued, but it's a recipe for prune cake. And I'm not against prunes, I'm just not for them either. I mean I've had them, they taste fine, but I have no distinct longings one way or another and my husband much like the Marlboro Man (which is the Pioneer Woman's husband) would definitely say they are gross. So, I secretly snuck some prunes into the cart at the grocery store and decided I was going to make it. And let me just tell you, it's delicious. Think carrot cake, but not nearly so rich since there's no cream cheese icing. It's fantastic and of course Jake's eaten half the cake since yesterday and he asked me what are those things? He started guessing, raisins, dates, cherries and I simple responded dried plums. Which is true, right? So, I have officially changed the name from Grandma Iny's Prune Cake to Grandma Iny's Cake, since there's no sense in ruining a good thing right?
So, here are some pics and then you go click on the Pioneer Woman's recipe up there and make it yourself.

Nothing too crazy

I've been having a fabulous summer. In one way this is great, because who doesn't want to sleep in, workout, layout, clean your house, go to the beach, and hang out with friends on a regular basis?? Everyone wants that. However, on the flipside this also means I'm not employed, and not for lack of trying. I'm sure I could be slightly more aggressive by actually going into schools, and I plan to as school gets closer, but for now it's me and my computer and it's frustrating. My last guide teacher told me just last week that there are 185 excessed teachers from the last CA budget where they did class size reductions. That means there are 185 teachers who WERE employed and now aren't, before I stand a chance to even get looked at. But God has a plan. Right? It's just so frustrating because Jake and I are REALLY hoping for a job that's not even in San Diego, but because we don't know if we're gonna get it or not. I'm stressing about getting a job in a city we don't want to live in. Ironic. However, while I do all this internal brooding, I am doing all that other great stuff I mentioned above, so I can't complain too much. And next week I am going to Puerta Vallarta with my girl Brittany for a little vacay. So, I will surely post beautiful pictures of me with a glowing tan that won't last long very soon. Until then or until I have something else good to blog about...

I forgot to tell you.....

Jesus is my boyfriend!!!

HA! Just kidding. Several years ago when I was college it was really cool to say Jesus is my boyfriend, I don't even totally remember why. I think it was, if you didn't have one then it didn't matter cause you had Jesus or something like that.
Well my best friend Britt (who lives in TX) one time posted a great blog about how being single can leave you feeling incomplete, as we are obviously made for companionship, but she ended it with saying to all those girls who say "Jesus is my boyfriend" " I hope I don't ever get that desperate"... And from then on it was always a nice little joke for us.
No shame to anyone that used the phrase, I think her point was simply yes being content in God, but let's also know that in the end since we are created for companionship and she was looking for a real boyfriend. And luckily she's had a really great one for a long time, who I expect to pop the question anyday.
But in the meantime, I actually found myself kissing Jesus last week.
I hope that's not too sacreligious. It's just for the drama I wrote and directed for Camp Rock (VBS), Jake happened to be playing Jesus. No shame there right?
Well, here's a few pics and if you want you can watch it on youtube as well. But remember it was written for elementary aged children, so don't expect too much. There are two videos, one leads to the other, if you are REALLY bored.

P.S. I added to my makeup post, with the results.
